Home Visits
Home visits allow our physiotherapists the opportunity of assessing patients in their own environment. The specific problems they may have as a result of their condition may be identified and addressed. Treatments are provided in the privacy of the home, care home or nursing home, and can restore patient’s independence. Many conditions are suitable for home treatments.
Conditions:
- Post-operative conditions e.g. hip/knee replacement surgery, building up after COVID-19 or other illnesses.
- Neurological conditions e.g. Stroke, Parkinson’s, MS.
- Musculoskeletal conditions e.g. Acute back pain and fractures.
- Loss of/decreased mobility, function and falls.
- Paediatric Physiotherapy e.g. Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome.
Some patients may not require physical treatment but may be helped by having a home assessment. This ensures that their home environment is as safe and functional as can be. By advising on issues such as;
- Chair height
- Toilet height
- Shower/bath accessibility
- Removal of cables/rugs (to reduce chance of tripping)
- Hand rails and grab rails
- Bed position
The home environment can be made as safe and accessible as possible. Mobility issues can be properly assessed and addressed when a patient is seen in their home.
How can I get a physiotherapy appointment?
You do not need a referral for a private physiotherapy appointment. You can self-refer to us. We accept cash, cheque, BACS payments, payment via credit / debit card using the Paypal app. We are also registered with some medical insurance companies.
What happens at a physiotherapy appointment?
The initial appointment will always be with a physiotherapist and is always an assessment. In many cases, some treatment will also be given. This will last from 30 minutes to an hour.
Follow-up appointments are usually an hour, but some conditions may only need 30 minutes.
The physio will need to see the part of the body that is giving you problems. This means you may be asked to undress to some degree. If you’re worried about this, you can ask to be seen by a physiotherapist of the appropriate gender when you make the appointment. This may not always be possible. Alternatively, you may have a chaperone present.
It’s likely that you will be given some exercises to do to help your condition before your follow-up appointment. These will typically be demonstrated by the physiotherapist and you may be given a sheet to remind you how to do them at home.
How much does physiotherapy cost?
The cost of private home visit physiotherapy is £70 per session – usually an hour, this is inclusive of clinical documentation time, application and removal of PPE.
If you have health insurance, it’s important to check with them before you make an appointment so the insurer can give the OK. You’ll need a claim number from the insurer so that we can invoice them directly and you don’t have to pay up front. Domiciliary Physiotherapy carries a higher fee than clinic based and so you will need to check that this amount is covered by your insurance company.
